I just posted this a couple of months ago but it
bears repeating, a funnier bit on someone’s
mother I have yet to hear!
Kathleen Madigan is making all sorts of history
with her newest recording “Bothering Jesus”, it
reminds me of the old days when comedy albums
actually charted, this one is THAT funny.
She is so clever, and her humor isn’t forced, it all
comes naturally.
One of the very best ever…

This classic Tom Lehrer piece is from his recording
An Evening Wasted, performed at Harvard College’s
Sanders Theater back in 1959!
The lyrics are as close to perfection as you can get,
he was/is the absolute master of the wry satire that
we have always known him for.
Not hyperbole, he IS the undisputed king of satire,
there has never been anybody better at it than he.
Tom is still with us, and that is a good thing.
I played this gem on the show this past week…

The Smothers Brothers from the 1965 album of the
same name with some superb sibling discourse
of the highest order.
Nobody did it like them, the back and forth is
their trademark, with Tommy usually getting
the brunt of the ordeal.
Some very smart dialogue in their routines, nothing
dumb at all, even when it was meant to be.
I love to play their material on the show, it should
be kept alive for all to enjoy, glad to do my part…

with an emphasis on his new age mom!
Tommy’s a good stand-up comedian, he has his shtick down
pat… quirky, not the he-man type, smart, astute yet
eclectic observational skills, socially awkward.
He knows what he is and he’s a funny man for it.
And he’s correct about the kale ships, they are good
for you but they do taste like sun baked salad…

Now that’s a crying shame!
At least we can imbibe a decent lager down here.

These folks are delightfully goofy.
Upbeat, cheerful, and thirsty.
We should all be so driven!
