Comedy 101 Radio 6.4.20

I played a lot of familiar names this week.
At least I’d like to think so.
This is one of the last of its kind, radio shows
that play comedy are few and very far between.
Especially the ones that play the three essential
comedic food groups, stand-up, sketch and
musical comedy.
At one time radio ruled the airwaves.
Not so much anymore.
I went with a relationship block, and I threw in
a rather dark carnivorous one towards the end.
It got silly, but that’s the goal isn’t it?
John Mulaney makes a valid point.
Tony Goldmark with a grand oration.
Lily explains why Ma Bell was to be feared.
Tom and Dick with a superb example of why
they are legends.
Mr. Atkinson with one of the best comedy sketches
ever performed by a single person.
David Crowe with one of the greatest lines ever
written about hunting.
The Amoeba People are awesome, simply stated.
Superlatives from McLean, Madigan, and Monty Python.
Well “I” enjoyed it anyway.
Onward and upwards…

Hot Rod Lincoln

Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen with a
classic toe tappin’ tune from the 1970’s.
There are a few different versions of this song, this
one has some nice guitar work and Commander’s
voice sounds pretty strong.
You’re gonna drive me to drinkin’ if you don’t stop…

Stand-up

This is a clever little piece from the gang at
National Lampoon, back when it was called
The National Lampoon Radio Hour.
This is Brian Doyle-Murray, the older brother
of Bill Murray, doing what he does best…

Home

Jeff Caldwell with a strong, smart set of comedy.
Snark is set on stun, aim is true, laughs inevitable.
His credit rating sounds like mine.
He’s a lot funnier than me though…

Talking Vietnam Potluck Blues

A Tom Paxton classic from 1971.
The Vietnam war was still going on when
this hit the airwaves, it created a bit of a stir.
Of course anything that parodied that ridiculous
war was certainly stir worthy.
After all was said and done the counterculture
movement had a hand in diminishing overall
support for it, this song helped that along.
You done good, Tom…

Little Blue Riding Hood

I played this on the show last week.
An absolutely tremendous display of voice actors
doing what they do best.
We’re talking the cream of the crop, Daws Butler
and June Foray showing the vocal skills that
powered hundreds of cartoons, animations, and
inanimate objects for decades.
And Stan Freberg ain’t no slouch either.
Basically a parody on the old radio and television
program called Dragnet, with some added twists…
