Forty years ago one of the funniest movies ever created
\nhit the big screen…in 1974 Blazing Saddles was born!
\nMel Brooks and Richard Pryor co-wrote this classic comedy
\nand I cannot think of a more interesting pairing.
\nIt was ground breaking for MANY reasons, I could devote
\nan entire week of posts just describing the scenes in the
\nmovie that were one of a kind.
\nYou simply could NOT make a movie like this today.
\nI’ll show a few of these this week but I wanted to start
\noff with one that was the only part of the original script
\nthat was cut, not by the studio folks but by Mel Brooks
\nhimself, with some strong urging by his wife, Anne Bankcroft.
\nIn the final cut, when Madeline Kahn attempts to seduce
\nCleavon Little in the dark…she says “Is it twoo
\nwhat they say that you people are gifted”…loud zipper
\nsound…”It’s Twoo! it’s Twoo! (she says it four times)…
\n(scene fades to morning breakfast).
\nThe cut was only one line, right after Madeline says
\n“It’s Twoo!” you were suppose to hear Cleavon say
\n“You’re sucking on my elbow!”
