Happy Independence Day to all!
I went hard with the classics this week, so few
outlets for their material exist at this point in time
that I felt compelled to, if for no other reason than to
keep the performers in the light of appreciation.
The genius of Stan Freberg is hard to overstate.
His contributions to society are vast and well
documented, truly a one of a kind artist.
I am absolutely astonished, after repeated listening,
that the incredible voice actors he used in
his much acclaimed Stan Freberg Presents the United States
of America, Volume One: The Early Years were as good as
they were, and not just the usual superstars either.
The voice work of Helen Kleeb, as Betsy Ross, is truly a
wonder to behold, a very iconic portrayal.
Paul Frees is outstanding as the announcer at the
beginning of each piece.
Peter Leeds is superb as Charlie and the boat renter.
Yes, I’m a fan boy, no apologies.
Feels good to start playing my favorite Summer ditty
of all time by Kenny Young & the Eggplants.
I hope you all kept your fingers straight and your eyes
