A good parody is a wonderful thing indeed.
Admittedly there is nothing worse than a bad one.
This one falls into the former category.
The original song was by John Denver and it was a
classic, this is by the Barron Knights and it is not.
I first heard this tune many years ago and I still
cannot fathom eating runny eggs before boarding
a flight, a recipe for disaster for sure.
The Barron Knights started off as a serious pop
group in the late 50’s, known as the Knights of the
Round Table, they didn’t start to gain fame for their
mirth until they started doing parodies in the mid 60’s.
As a lot of serious artists have figured out, humor
can really enhance your chances in the world of
entertainment, some drop the serious part of the
equation completely…folks like Heywood Banks and
Henry Phillips come to mind.
These folks did, and are still doing, both pop and
comedy/novelty tunes to appreciative audiences.
This has been covered by a few artists but I prefer
this version best of all…
