Lawn Dart

Ed’s Redeeming Qualities with a Summer Classic.
They were a decent New England band back in
the 80’s and 90’s, no longer together but their
eclectic music certainly lives on.
I remember my radio station receiving this
recording on a cassette in the early nineties.
It got my attention.
“Pegged in the head by a lawn dart…”
Very catchy stuff…

Look at All Those Idiots

From The Simpson’s Sing the Blues, a humorous
little piece voiced by Harry Shearer, as Smithers
and Mr. Burns.
The show has lasted all these years because of
its depth of characters, varied and interesting.
Not to mention quite good at shining light on the
human condition, albeit in a jaundiced way.
By a jaundiced family, no less…

Running a Marathon

I recently played this bit by Jim Gaffigan on the show.
He seems to be getting better, his act is tighter and,
dare I say it, funnier than just a couple of years ago.
He’s a little looser as well, still doesn’t use profanity
but he’ll throw a few adult epithets out there if need be.
All in all he’s a pretty solid entertainer, not the funniest
guy out there but rock steady and always good for a
chuckle or three.
I agree with him about running, if you aren’t being
chased by a homicidal maniac…don’t!

The Mermaid

The Shel Silverstein classic as performed by Great Big Sea.
A Canadian folk rock band with talent to spare they sang
traditional ballads with a modern twist to it.
Great Big Sea were quite popular from the mid 90’s
until their breakup in 2013, I remember hearing them on
the radio when camping on the Canadian border back
in the day.
They showed a sense of humor when performing, as
noted by the background comments peppered
throughout the song, especially towards the end.
As with all of Shel’s tunes this has great imagery…

Here Fishy Fishy Fishy

At first glance I though this was the episode where
Ernie goes on a bender and shows up at a taping
stewed to the gills, unable to remember his lines
he loses it and beats Bert savagely with a fishing pole.
I’ll post that one next week.
This is the one where Ernie teaches us all how to fish.
We’ve been doing it wrong for years apparently…
