I recently had a conversation with a fellow comedy lover about the state of GOOD comedy in general. We agreed on the fact that there are very few comedy troupes today that can hold a candle to the classic groups like The Frantics, Monty Python or The Royal Canadian Air Farce. The Dead Alewives are defunct. The Perch is no more. Synaptic Anarchy Playhouse is just a memory. All had talent, especially SAP, and all will be missed.
Stand-up comedy is currently doing okay, Daniel Tosh, Nick Griffin and Adam Ferrara are at the top of their game right now. But there are signs that it is on the downward trend. There are a lot of comedians getting top billing that are overrated and that is a symptom of too many comics and not enough talent.
My perspective is that of a DJ with the need to provide entertaining comedy that sounds good on the radio.
Only the great stand-up artists do well with just audio.

This is a classic by the great Stephen Fry…
